Frequesting Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Cold Turkey? As pertaining to smoking, it's stopping smoking 100% cold, as opposed to cutting back over time, without the use of nicotine replacement or drugs. The terms origin is thought to come from heroin withdrawal... where the skin can become dimpled like a "cold turkey". George actually thinks cold turkey is an inappropriate term for quitting smoking because nicotine withdrawal is nothing like heroin withdrawal.
What is Mind Over Addiction? A registered trademark of Mind Body Publishing, LLC, it's a system that addresses smoking as primarily a mental conditioning and that the cure for smoking is the natural top-down process of the brain.
Yes, but how does it help me? Mind Over Addiction includes techniques from hypnosis, Neuro-Linguistic Program (NLP), spiritual psychology, visualization and certain stop-smoking gurus to assist you in breaking your own addiction "cold turkey" by activating the self-healing power of the mind.
Isn't this basically Willpower Not at all. Willpower quitting is a myth. No one can truly fight there own will to do something. The will to smoke must change. That's why George uses the mule and carrot story. You can push a mule all day long and it won't move, right? Yet all you need do is use a carrot to change the mules will. This change in will summarizes quite nicely Mind Over Addiction technique.
What are the 3Cs of Smoking Addiction? When looked at in holistic way, there are the 3 sides of smoking addiction... Conditioning, Coping (Crutch) and Chemical dependence. So nicotine is seen as only one part, or one side, of a three sided addiction triangle.
What does F.E.D.Up! mean? It's a state of mind that has freed millions of smokers. George discovered this in his interviews with hundreds of ex-smokers who quit easily. Smokers can go immediately from enjoying smoking to despising it. This change of mind makes it easier to quit. Fed up, in the usual sense means "I'm Done" but the acronym stands for a Final Energized Decision --- the "I'm done" thought, such as, "what I'm I trained rat?", that can free a smoker for good.
What is the "Instant-Easy" For lack of a better term there was no way to refer to the way millions of people quit smoking. When smokers have the "ah ha!", "moment of clarity" or get "F.E.D.Up! the top-down processes of the brain fire... and it become immediately easy for these smokers to quit smoking for good. Smokers often say, "I quit cold turkey" but this is a heroin withdrawal term that usually elicits fear of withdrawal and many smokers quit with no withdrawal at all. These type of smokers usually say, "I just quit" of "I just threw the pack away".
Are you saying nicotine isn't addictive? Nicotine has addictive properties but it is blown way out of proportion. Freedom from nicotine can happen with no withdrawal effects. Even if there are, they are usually a 2-72 hour problem. In the end, nicotine is helpless against the mind's ability to reject smoking completely. This is rarely, if ever, the case with heroin. Therefore, smoking is seen as more of an emotional addiction than a physical one.
Why do you emphasize "easy" quitting? Well, if you believe it's hard to quit it will be. Quitting smoking is not like "spontaneous remission" from cancer (although science refers to it that way!). It's simply a fact that millions have quit smoking easily and many have no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. And virtually any smoker can get F.E.D Up!, so quitting can become easy for virtually anyone.
What is CSE? CSE stands for Conditioned State Energy and is the name for the driving force of emotional addiction. There was no name for this force until George introduced it in "Stop Smoking for the Last Time". CSE is a force or drive of addiction, that is experienced as an urge, but it is simply thought that has taken on a life of its own. It is experienced as a bio-chemical "dis-ease" of the mind but it can be changed with proper mind-body techniques and education. It's simply NOT a physical disease, it exists at the level of mind, and therefore may always be beyond the realm of pharmaceuticals.
What is NLP? Neuro-Lingusic Programming is a late 20th century change science that modeled doctors such as Milton Erickson and Virgina Satir who had great success in changing people's behavior...naturally. It includes terms such as "reframing" and "anchors" which are key elements in addressing Conditioned State Energy. Reframing is simply "a changed perception" and eliminating anchors is about changing the Pavlovian (habitual) response to anything.
Why do you charge for your services or accept donations? There are costs involved in running this website. Plus, advertising on this is minimal especially since I will not promote pharmaceuticals, herbs or gimmicks to stop smoking.
Where do the fees and donations go? Fees go toward keeping the site online, secure and up to date and repaying the initial develop costs. Most "free" sites are highly funded directly or indirectly by pharmaceutical companies and are far from "free" since buying pharmaceuticals is expensive.
What is Hypnosis? Hypnosis has broadened it's definition but unfortunately it's highly understood as "trance" but hypnosis can be defined as any communication with the unconscious mind where habits reside.
Who is George Wissing? George Wissing is author of the book, "Stop Smoking for the Last Time" and trained hypnosis professional. He has earned certifications with the American Board of Hypnotherapy, Smoke Free International, the McFall Method and the International Hypnosis Federation. He's also an ordained Interfaith Minister and long-time student and teacher of A Course in Miracles, he's an agent for change. As a hypnosis practitioner he's all about immediate results. He's the original Mind Over Addiction Coach who founded this website to help anyone who wants to quit smoking, for the last time, succeed.
Who is the Mad Russian? Yefim Shubentsov is a famous stop smoking guru in the Boston area. He has seen over 130,000 smokers to include Billy Joel and Drew Barrymore. He claims to tap a "bio-energy" that "poofs" smoking right out of people. George studied the Mad Russian and sees his technique as equivalent NLP re-anchoring re-framing technique. The Mad Russian also wrote the foreword of George's book, "Stop Smoking for the Last Time". There's no other formal affiliation between George and Mr. Shubentsov.
Who is Allen Carr? The late Allen Carr was a 4-pack a day smoker who quit using hypnosis. From his experience he wrote "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" which has sold millions worldwide". George sees this book as an ingenious NLP reframe of the smoking habit. There is no relationship between Allen Carr and George, he just admires Allen Carr.
How is George's book different than "The Easy Way"? Stop Smoking for the Last Time is a holistic approach to the smoking problem. It sees both great differences and great similarities among each smoker. George is an expert in hypnosis and NLP and explains the benefits while also introducing new concepts like Conditioned State Energy, the 3Cs of smoking addiction emphasizes why breathing is an unconscious link to the fear of quitting (Carr missed the breathing connection).
What are top-down processes? Top-down processes were discovered in 2005 by neuroscientists. There are 10 times more neuro-fibers for top-down processes (TDPs) than bottom-up processes (our 5 senses). TDPs are the scientific explanation for why imagination can override learned or past behaviors and can even override pain. When smoking is seen as primarily a learned behavior, it can therefore be overridden by TDPs of the brain. This explains why 90% of smokers can "spontaneously remit". The top-down process is literally the cure for smoking.
