Dear President Obama - You're Cool Without Smoking
By George Wissing
Leno and Letterman were joking the other night that Barrack Obama has made a commitment not to smoke in the White House. Of course, David Letterman started to strike poses that made cigarettes look cool. When will this silly glamorization of cigarettes end?
Well, not until people really realize what truly makes people look and feel more calm and centered when they smoke.

This Is Your Brain Under Hypnosis (Top-Down Processes)
By Sandra Blakeslee. The New York Times, November 22, 2005.
Hypnosis, with its long and checkered history in medicine and entertainment, is receiving some new respect from neuroscientists. Recent brain studies of people who are susceptible to suggestion indicate that when they act on the suggestions their brains show profound changes in how they process information. The suggestions, researchers report, literally change what people see, hear, feel and believe to be true.

Dr. Hughes and Shiffman do their academic best to try and convince those making worldwide cessation policy decisions that, after 20 years of NRT research that consumed the lion's share of all cessation research dollars, a 93% midyear relapse rate demonstrates an "effective" means for smokers to quit. Rubbish!

The A, B, 3C's of Smoking Addiction - Why the Patch Fails Millions of Smokers
By George Wissing
Billions of dollars are spent on Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to quit smoking. Yet facts show that after a mere 6 months, a whopping 93% begin to smoke again.*
The reason NRT fails so many is that it ignores the basic ABCs or what I call the 3Cs of smoking addiction. In interviewing more than 500 smokers, I've concluded that there are three sides to the smoking problem:
Side 1: Conditioning: This can be summarized as "the force of habit".
Side2: Coping: This is basically dealing with life, or summarized as "a crutch".
And last and maybe least,
Side 3: Chemical dependency; usually simplified as nicotine addiction.
When looked at in this way, smoking is minimally two parts mental and one part physical. What many don't acknowledge is that strong urge can be caused by the emotional side of the smoking addiction. Think about it, if the urge was caused by nicotine, why do smokers still want to smoke when wearing the patch? In my opinion, smoking is primarily an emotional addiction of the mind.
When we acknowledge the complexities of the addiction, it makes sense that NRT fails more than it succeeds. Before NRT was the common "cure" for quitting, 90% of smokers quit smoking naturally.** It may surprise you that it was not very hard for many smokers to quit and it's ridiculous to buy into the myth that nicotine is as addictive as heroin. Almost every ex-smoker I've spoken to has quit in an instant burst of what is commonly known as an Ah Ha! moment -- they just "decided" and quit. Not too many heroin addicts can do that.
Yet, even smokers that succeeded really can't explain how they did it. Yet the easiest way to quit is to have this Ah Ha! moment too. Sure, not every quit story is like this, but dig deep enough and you may be surprised at how many smokers simply "just quit".
I'm not saying that it's easy to quit, and it is quite common that quitting takes multiple tries, but what I'm saying though is that once the power of decision is released it can become easy. How does one make the powerful decision and quit without struggle?
Most hypnotists know the secret to unlocking this power, we use words like congruence and reframing, but one thing is for sure, the battle to quit smoking naturally can be won between the ears and hypnosis is one of the only modalities that gets to the root cause of the smoking problem -- the thought process and habits of the smoker.
